Now that you know why you should blog lets move on to the nuts and bolts of installing a blogging platform. If you already have a blogging platform installed then this post will be review for you. If you do not have a platform then this is a basic version of  the steps for getting a blog up.

My entire website is built on a WordPress theme, so that is the way I will explain the process. I am in no way a web developer, so if you are using a different platform or if you want something more complicated you should consult with a website designer.

The following are the steps that I took in setting up my site

    Obtain a Domain Name

There are many places that you can secure a domain name. If you already have a website you do not need this step unless you are setting up your blog as a separate site. Make sure your domain name is easily spelled and easily remembered.

    Secure Web Hosting

There are many places to obtain web hosting. I personally use GoDaddy and have found it to be inexpensive and just what I need. (Lot’s of web hosting places can also provide domain names).
    Download and Install WordPress

Installing WordPress is a pretty simple process. They provide detailed direction here.
    Choose and Edit a Theme

This is the fun part. You can find tons of free WordPress themes on their site, or if you want to spend a little money you can find specially designed themes all over. The free themes can be edited with a little time and effort. I highly recommend taking the time to tweak a theme to match your branding, it is worth the time to have a spectacular looking site.

    Start Posting

Now you have a blog set up it is time to start posting!
